DESCRIPTION:Join Us for our Weekly Meeting!  Learn about the great things Calusa Waterkeeper does for SWFL!  Our speakers will be Jennifer Walker and Chuck Avery. \nCalusa Waterkeeper\, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of the Caloosahatchee River & Estuary\, Lake Okeechobee\, Nicodemus Slough\, Charlotte Harbor\, Estero Bay\, the near-shore waters of Lee County\, and their watersheds\, through education and promotion of responsible use and enjoyment by all people. \nJennifer Walker\nFundraising and Donor Relations \nJennifer has a background in fundraising\, membership and development. She has a Bachelor’s degree in both Business and French from William Jewell College. A Detroit native\, Jennifer has lived in Florida for the past twenty years. She is an avid baseball fan\, especially of her team\, the Detroit Tigers. She enjoys traveling\, especially to attend Tiger’s games. She is excited to be joining the Calusa Waterkeeper team\, as she cares deeply about the water quality in Florida. She is a proud homeowner in a neighborhood along the river\, where she enjoys walking and spending time in her yard. \nChuck Avery\nDirector \nAs a construction executive\, Chuck lived and worked where great rivers\, the Colorado\, Mississippi\, and the Nile\, had major impacts on peoples lives. Now retired\, he kayaks the Estero Bay\, Spring Creek\, and the Gulf. A member of numerous environmental organizations\, he co-founded his community Eco Club in order to get residents aware and involved in local issues.

DESCRIPTION:Join Us for our Weekly Meeting!  Captiva Island continues to make steady progress in its recovery from Hurricanes Ian\, Helene\, and Milton. While much of the island’s infrastructure\, beaches\, and utilities have been restored\, work continues on rebuilding homes\, businesses\, and several landmark resorts. Many shops\, restaurants\, and accommodations have reopened\, welcoming visitors back while maintaining the island’s distinctive charm and natural beauty. Ongoing beach restoration\, resiliency improvements\, and careful redevelopment are helping ensure Captiva remains one of Southwest Florida’s most treasured coastal destinations for years to come. \nOur Speaker: \nSandra Stilwell Youngquist is the CEO and owner of Stilwell Enterprises & Restaurant Group\, which operates seven restaurants\, inns\, and three shopping centers across Captiva Island\, Fort Myers\, and Boca Grande. A self-employed entrepreneur since age 17\, she has built a dynamic portfolio in hospitality and real estate.\nShe serves on the Board of Directors for Gulf Coast Business Bank\, Chapters Health System—the world’s largest nonprofit hospice provider—and The Horizon Foundation\, where she chairs the Edison Awards committee. Her civic involvement includes serving on the Captiva Community Panel\, Gulfshore Life Magazine’s Advisory Editorial Board\, and the Advisory Board for Florida Gulf Coast University’s Resort and Hospitality Management program.\nSandra co-chairs the Planning & Capacity Branch of Resilient Lee\, a regional task force formed after Hurricane Ian to develop resiliency strategies and secure $1.2 billion in federal HUD funding.\nA committed community leader\, she actively serves on the boards of organizations such as Hope Hospice\, Habitat for Humanity\, Harry Chapin Food Bank\, Junior Achievement of SWFL\, Pace Center for Girls\, Lee Health Foundation\, and SWFL Children’s Charities.\nShe is also the author of Resilient Spirit\, a book on entrepreneurship available through Amazon\, Barnes & Noble\, and Books-A-Million.

SUMMARY:Weekly Lunch Meeting: FGCU Adjunct Teaching
DESCRIPTION:Join Us for our Weekly Meeting! We will hear all about the benefits of adjunct teaching from Dr. Bill Reynolds and Dr. John Roth of FGCU. \nDr. Bill Reynolds is director of the Lucas Center for Faculty Development and a professor of social work at Florida Gulf Coast University. In his leadership role\, he supports faculty through professional-development programs designed to advance excellence\, innovation and student-centered teaching. His professional and scholarly interests include teaching and learning\, faculty development\, educational philosophy\, ethics and student-faculty partnerships. Reynolds earned both his doctorate and Master of Social Service degree in social work from Bryn Mawr College\, a master’s degree in secondary education from Temple University and a bachelor’s degree in English from Lafayette College. \nDr. John Roth is coordinator of adjunct faculty at Florida Gulf Coast University’s Lucas Center for Faculty Development and a certified adjunct instructor in the Department of Communication and Philosophy. He teaches religious studies courses\, including Contemporary World Religions and Religion and Politics in America. Roth previously served several terms as a Lucas Faculty Fellow\, researching the experiences of adjunct faculty and identifying ways universities can strengthen their support and professional development. He co-authored the peer-reviewed article “The Forgotten Adjunct in the Academy: Can Department Chairs Help?” and co-hosts The Adjunct Files\, an FGCU podcast that provides adjunct instructors with practical resources\, professional-development opportunities and a forum for sharing their experiences.

DESCRIPTION:Join Us for our Weekly Meeting! Kevin Karnes\, Lee County Clerk of the Court & Comptroller will present on several programs including the Sand Dollar Snapshot which brings transparency to Lee County government financials and makes it easy for citizens to see where their tax dollars are spent.  He will also touch on preventing title fraud. \nClerk Kevin Karnes was appointed Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller by Gov. DeSantis in March 2022 and was elected to the position in August 2022 by Lee County voters.\nKarnes holds a master’s degree in Legal Studies from American Public University and a bachelor’s degree from Florida Gulf Coast University. Kevin is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Clerk and Comptroller. He is a long-time veteran of the Clerk’s office and has held a variety of leadership positions leading complex budgets\, managing projects and implementing legislative changes.\nAs Clerk of the Circuit Court\, Karnes is responsible for nearly 1\,000 duties designated by the Florida Constitution and Statutes. The Clerk of the Circuit Court’s primary function is to safeguard the integrity of all court records.
